The immediate proximity of the Friche Belle de Mai site with the railways prompts a surprising urban setting, from which we draw our inspiration to realize this order for a kids’ playground. We decided to build it from the history of the place by reactivating its narrative power. Trains and their stations are an universe rich with imaginative opportunities, highly dynamic and fascinating, as much from a technical point of view that a human one.

The playground revolves around the base of an old freight car that we took to bits. To this transformed space we added the kids’ games so they could dream of exotic travels without having to take a step. Climbing on the car, taking control over the cockpit, becoming a railroader… The freight car is a meaningful object, embodying the notions of movements, going forward, progressing. We wanted to make this universe accessible to the kids, so they would discover it, claim ownership over it, make it theirs and inhabit it.
