Wind-it

By 2015, France will have ten times more wind turbines than today. Their construction is at the centre of a debate between the advocates of sustainable energy and those who think the multiplication of wind-turbines will blight the countryside.
Wind-it suggests an alternative: the combining of the wind-turbine with the electricity pylon. This project for electricity production is centered around two principles:
- the overlay of a network of wind-turbines on a vertical axis onto the electricity transport system.
- a preference for the accumulation of small generators rather than isolated voluminous structures.
In order to do this we suggest two operational systems:
- a plug-wind turbine which would be grafted on to existing electricity pylons.
- a new electric pylon which would have an integrated unit for capturing wind.
Equipping a third of the pylons on the ground would generate the equivalent of two nuclear power stations. Existing pylons would thus be put to their advantage and would become producers of renewable energy, linked up directly to the network.
